Summer tires use a firmer compound and a simpler tread pattern with fewer sipes, maximising the rubber in contact with the road. That delivers the strongest dry braking and cornering grip, plus strong wet performance in warm conditions.

They are intended for use above roughly 7 °C (45 °F). Below that the compound stiffens and grip falls away sharply, so they should not be run through winter.
